DMX Sentenced to One Year in Prison

DMX is heading back to prison for one year after pleading guilty to violating the terms of his probation.

DMX, whose real name is Earl Simmons, was arrested on Nov. 18 in Phoenix, Arizona, for using cocaine and consuming alcohol during a performance in an Arizona club and later failing to check in with his probation officer. He was also accused of driving on a suspended license.

The embattled rapper has already served two stints in prison this year. DMX most recently walked free in August after serving 18 days of a 90-day sentence in connection with a reckless driving conviction from 2002. He also served four months behind bars earlier in the year for a previous parole violation charge, before being released in July.
Upon receiving the guilty plea, Judge Christine Mulleneaux, who had previously rejected two requests by the rapper's lawyer to release him on bail prior to sentencing, ordered DMX to serve a year behind bars.

Judge Mulleneaux said, "Substance abuse issues are at the root of this problem ... Your criminal history goes back to 1988. It's going to continue if you don't take care of your mental health."

It certainly looks like DMX will be spending his birthday behind bars. The rapper turns 40 on Dec. 18.

'40 Year Old Virgin' Actor Shelley Malil Sentenced to Life in Prison

Shelley Malil, the actor best known for playing an electronics store clerk in 'The 40 Year Old Virgin,' was sentenced to life in prison Thursday for the attempted premeditated murder of his ex-girlfriend, Kendra Beebe, RadarOnline.com reports.

Malil was found guilty of attempted premeditated murder and assault with a deadly weapon in September. The jury deliberated less than four hours before making the decision.

The actor will be eligible for parole in 12 years though prosecutor Keith Watanabe said with time already served and good behavior, Malil could be free in as little as nine years.

Beebe was stabbed 20 times by Malil at her San Diego County home in August 2008 after he found her socializing with another man, David Maldonado. Malil said he felt threatened and believed Maldonado was going to kill him.
"I don't know what it was, but someone was hitting me with something and all I had was this knife and I just went bananas with the thing," Malil stated during his trial.

Defense attorney Matthew Roberts told jurors in his closing arguments that while there was no denying Malil went too far with the knife, he never intended to kill Beebe. Malil pleaded not guilty to the charges.

T.I. Cracks the Top 5 in a Prison Jumpsuit

For most convicts serving hard time, their professional lives and earning power take a siesta, but not rapper T.I., who is still making noise -- and money -- on the outside. According to Billboard, his latest album, 'No Mercy,' debuted this week at No. 4 with 159,000 albums sold.

Still, it's a far cry from T.I.'s last album 'Paper Trail' in 2008, which broke out with 568,000 units sold. Nevertheless, it's pretty good for an inmate who's been behind bars since Nov. 1, serving an 11 month sentence for violating his probation. T.I. was arrested in October for illegal possession of ecstasy.
After entering prison, T.I. took to his website to vent his frustration with his repeated stints in jail. Here's hoping he can celebrate his next album as a free man.
