As the $65 million Broadway behemoth 'Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark' continues working out its widely reported kinks -- producers just announced another postponement of the opening date, after extensive media coverage of cast injuries and technical problems -- suspense builds about what the show will finally be like.
Well, Conan O'Brien knows! Or thinks he does, anyway. The late-night host has been shedding light on that mystery with supremely silly "preview" scenes of the Spidey musical.
The real show is in an increasingly sticky situation. With a score by U2's Bono and The Edge, and direction from the visionary behind 'The Lion King' (on Broadway) and 'The Tempest' (on the big screen now), Julie Taymor, the ambitious production has sky-high artistic expectations. Will the cast and creators end up taking the comic-book character way too seriously? Team Coco hopes not!

In a statement Friday, according to E! News, producer Micahel Cohl explained the Broadway company's decision to wait until February to open the show: "Due to some unforeseeable setbacks, most notably the injury of a principal cast member, it has become clear that we need to give the team more time to fully execute their vision....I have no intention of cutting a single corner in getting to the finish line."
"The backstage mood is extremely upbeat," added spokesman Rick Miramontez. "Everybody remains on their path."
Bono's path leads him back to Taymor's side in late December (U2 have been touring overseas in recent weeks), to rejoin the production full-time for its ongoing rehearsals and rewrites, according to the New York Times.
We're not writing off 'Turn Off the Dark' just yet, but Conan's take has certainly been a bright spot to tide many Spidey fans over for the time being.
